Upper Darby Man Charged With Killing Teen

Authorities say defendant believed that the victim had stolen from him

An Upper Darby man is now charged with murder following the death of a man shot in the head at close range earlier this month.

Delaware County police originally charged 19-year-old Antonio White with attempted homicide in the Nov. 1 shooting of 18-year-old Melvin Stewart als of Upper Darby.

Stewart was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he died a week later.

Authorities alleged in court documents that the defendant believed that the victim had stolen from him.

White was arraigned on charges of first- and third-degree murder, criminal homicide, assault, reckless endangering and weapons counts.

A preliminary hearing has been rescheduled for Jan. 9.

A listed number for White could not be found Saturday and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.
