Caught on Cam: Armed Robbers Terrorize Woman Inside Upper Darby Laundromat

Police are searching for two armed robbers who were caught on camera attacking a woman inside an Upper Darby laundromat.

A 39-year-old clerk was working inside a laundromat on the 7100 block of Marshall Road in Upper Darby around 4 a.m. Monday when two masked robbers entered. Surveillance video shows the robbers pushing the woman to the ground and dragging her into a boiler room before locking her inside. One of the robbers goes through her pockets and throws her shoe off. Police say the suspect threatened to kill the woman if she made noise.

“She’s scared to death,” said Upper Darby Police Chief Michael Chitwood. “That was the conversation. Keep quiet or we’ll kill you.”

Police say the second robber, who they believe is a woman, grabbed the keys to the office and stole $200 in cash as well as $400 in quarters. Video shows the robber knocking the quarters to the floor. She then takes off her gloves, steals a bucket and then places the coins inside. The suspect then grabs the victim’s coat before fleeing the scene with the second suspect The victim was not seriously hurt during the incident.

Both suspects were wearing a camouflage-style mask similar to what hunters wear, according to investigators.

“The video is good and there’s no doubt that they’re from the neighborhood,” Chitwood said.

Chitwood referred to the suspects as “urban terrorists” during a press conference.

“Armed with a gun. Wearing a mask. Four o’clock in the morning. That’s what makes somebody an urban terrorist in my opinion,” Chitwood said.
