The University of Delaware is planning to close two aging student dormitories, eliminating the school's west campus.
School officials say the residence halls, built in 1966, have "reached the end of their useful life as high-quality housing." They say the John Dickinson and Caesar Rodney dormitories will be closed after students move out in May.
The News Journal reports that the school hasn't decided how to use the property in the future but that the buildings won't be immediately demolished.
A university spokeswoman says that once the buildings close, police will increase patrols in the area and monitor the site with video surveillance.
The university opened two new dormitories last fall and plans two more to be opened next fall.
