University of Delaware Helping Clean 1960s Mural

A mural from the 1960s that now hangs in a state building in New Castle is getting some conservation help thanks to the University of Delaware.

The University of Delaware says that junior Amanda Kasman, who is majoring in art conservation, and recent graduate Karissa Muratore are working to clean the so-called "Micarta Mural.''

The mural now hangs in the lobby of the renovated Delaware River and Bay Authority building. It shows a map of the East Coast and is made up of six panels that are 4 feet by 8 feet. The mural stretches the length of the lobby and is named for the commercial resin that seals it.

The mural had been in storage for years before being brought out as part of a lobby redesign project.
