Triple Stabbing in University City

Three teens hurt in fight at 40th & Market

A fight in University City late Thursday left three teenagers stabbed and three other males in police custody.

Just after 11:10 p.m., University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Police responded to 40th and Market Streets for what UPenn Police called a “large disturbance" on the street.

Police quickly cleared the scene to find three males suffering from stab wounds, according to a UPenn press release.

A mother told NBC10's Byron Scott that her 16- and 17-year-old sons were stabbed. One of the boys suffered a collapsed lung but he was expected to be OK, his mother said.

Police listed the 17-year-old in serious condition and didn't release conditions for the 16-year-old nor a 19-year-old who was also stabbed.

People in a nearby apartment complex say that they were at home watching TV when a man burst in and ran upstairs. Officers say they recovered a knife from that apartment.

The man who rushed into that apartment and another two men were taken in for questioning. There were no immediate charges filed cops said.

Police say the men involved in the fight apparently knew each other and that one of the victims was possibly jumped.
