U.S. Marshal Hurt During Chase with Accused Piazza Shooter

A U.S. Marshal was seriously hurt after being struck by a car during a foot chase with a murder suspect.

Marshals descended onto the 9100 block of Ryerson Road in the Holme Circle section of Philadelphia Wednesday evening to arrest Donnell Murchinson, authorities said. He is believed to be the main shooter in the brutal murder of Rian Thal and Timothy Gilmore. The two were shot several times in the hallway of Thal's Northern Liberties apartment building in June. Investigators found 4 kilos of cocaine and more than $100,000 in cash inside the woman's apartment.

As officials attempted to bring Murchinson, 33, into custody, he jumped from a window of the home and began to run. The unidentified Marshal, who was sitting in a car outside the home, gave chase around the block and was struck by a mini-van on the 2800 block of Willits Road.

The Marshal was knocked unconscious by the force of the impact. He was rushed to Frankford Torresdale Hospital in serious condition, authorities said.

Murchinson was eventually taken into custody. There is no word on charges. He is the sixth person to be arrested in connection to the double murder.
