US Hiker Sick in Iranian Jail: β€œThey Won't Listen to Me”

American said she had gynecological issues months ago; told mom Iranians won't treat

One of three U.S. hikers jailed in Iran was allowed to call her mother on the phone briefly this week--only the second phone call since she was detained more than a year ago.

That's according to Sarah Shourd's mother, Nora. She said Thursday that her 31-year-old daughter reached her on her cell phone on Monday and they talked for three or four minutes.

The mother says they talked about her daughter's health problems and her solitary confinement in Tehran's Evin prison. She says her daughter has asked jailers for medical treatment.

Nora Shourd says her daughter told her, β€œThey won't listen to me.”

Sarah Shourd, Shane Bauer and Josh Fatta l-- who is from Elkins Park, Pa. -- were arrested along the Iraqi border, and Iran accuses them of spying. Their families deny that accusation.
