A former New Jersey mayor's sentencing on federal fraud and obstruction charges has been postponed.
Andrew Lucas was to have faced sentencing Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Trenton. A jury convicted the former mayor of Manalapan in September of wire fraud, identity theft, obstruction and lying to the IRS.
Lucas's sentencing is set for April 24. He has remained free on bail since his conviction.
Prosecutors said Lucas falsified loan documents and stole a relative's identity to purchase a farm property.
They also contended that he convinced a client of his investment company to invest $250,000 in a company that didn't exist until Lucas formed it three days later, using a relative's name and social security number without the relative's knowledge.
