Trial Date Set for Suspect in Deadly Crash That Killed ‘Nova Senior

Donnie Sayers is facing third-degree murder charges.

A Delaware County judge set the trial date for the man accused of killing a Villanova student and injuring another in a hit and run on Sept. 29, according to the Delaware County Daily Times.

Donnie Sayers, 30, was arraigned Tuesday on charges that he under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he crashed a stolen Range Rover into a Volkswagon Jetta driven by Dan Giletta, 22.

Police say it was just after midnight when they spotted the stolen SUV on Haverford Road. The SUV was traveling at more than 100 mph when it crashed into the car containing Giletta and his fraternity brother Frank DiChiare, said authorities. Sayers fled the scene.

Giletta died on impact and DiChiare was flown to a nearby hospital, according to police.

”He (DiChiara) is still in the hospital, being treated for his injuries,” Deputy District Attorney McDevitt told the paper.

The Delco Times also reports that at the time of his arrest, Sayers admitted to drinking and doing drugs before the crash.

The pretrial hearing is set for Dec. 28. Sayers will face charges of third-degree murder and related offenses, according to the Times.
