Trial to Begin in Car Wash Stabbing Death

Opening statements are expected Thursday in the trial of a man charged in the stabbing death of his estranged girlfriend at a western Pennsylvania car wash a year ago.

Jury selection has been conducted this week in Cambria County Court for the trial of 22-year-old Demetrius Gibson of Johnstown.

Gibson is charged in the August 2013 slaying of 21-year-old Elizabeth Ann Miller in the parking lot of the Dollar Car Wash in Johnstown's Moxham neighborhood.

Authorities said the couple had lived together. A witness testified earlier that the two had argued the night before the stabbing.

Prosecutors are seeking a first-degree murder conviction but not the death penalty.

The (Johnstown) Tribune-Democrat reports that defense attorney Thomas Dickey hopes to convince jurors that Gibson had no intent to kill.
