Amtrak Acela Train Strikes, Kills Woman in Delaware County

SEPTA's Wilmington/Newark Regional Rail Line has been restored after it was interrupted for nearly two hours when an Amtrak Acela train struck and killed a person in Delaware County.

Police said the person was a woman and that the strike appears to have been accidental. Officials were working to notify the woman's family and did not release information about her identity.

The Wilmington/Newark Line was suspended in the wake of the woman being struck by the train at 7:23 a.m., and service on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor was delayed, authorities said. Amtrak officials said Acela train 2103, traveling from New York to Washington, DC, hit the person on the tracks.

The incident happened on the 700 block of Maryland Avenue in Prospect Park. It was unclear why the woman was on the tracks.
