Train Didn't Kill Man Found Near Tracks: Police

Investigators say a man found dead near railroad tracks in North Jersey apparently was not struck and killed by a train.

But how the man ended up there and how he died remain unclear.

Bogota police tell The Record that two pedestrians found the body late Friday night in a secluded area along the tracks near Elm Avenue. The discovery came after the pedestrians noticed a "pungent odor" in the area.

Authorities have not said how long the body may have been at the site. They also declined to release the man's name, pending notification of his relatives.

Train traffic in the area was delayed while the death was investigated.
