Police Shoot Tractor Trailer Driver Who Tried to Run Them Over

Police shot a tractor trailer driver after he tried to run over several officers late Thursday night after leading them on a chase through Montgomery County.

Officers said they responded to multiple reports of a tractor trailer, driven by a 46-year-old driver, slamming into multiple vehicles along the 1100 block of Swede Street in Norristown around 11:15 p.m.

The driver disregarded an officer's attempt to pull him over and continued south on Swede Street, running red lights before turning onto Lafayette Street and purposely colliding with a guard rail by the Danne Hower bridge, authorities said.

He eventually came to a stop near Main and Markley streets, where officers ordered him out of the truck, according to officials.

The man refused and then stepped on the accelerator, driving towards police, investigators said. One of the officers then dischared his weapon, firing three shots and hitting the suspect once in the arm, authorities said.

At that point, officers removed the driver from the rig and the man was airlifted to Hahnemann University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to officials.

None of the police officers were hurt.  Detectives will continue to investigate.
