Toxicology Tests Show Drugs in Blood of 3 NJ Crash Victims

Authorities says it's not clear whether the drugs contributed to the crash.

Preliminary toxicology tests show three people killed in a high speed crash that left a hole in a New Jersey elementary school had drugs in their blood at the time of the accident.

However, Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford says it's not clear whether the drugs contributed to the crash that killed driver Matthew Budesa, 20, and his passengers Kimberly VanGorden, 20, and Matthew Witzgall, 21.

Ford announced on Tuesday that metabolized cocaine and the painkiller oxycondone were found in all three of the victims.

Ford says the metabolized cocaine levels are consistent with cocaine use two or three days prior to the Feb. 3 accident at the Pine Beach elementary school in Toms River.

The prosecutor says the painkiller found in Budesa was at therapeutic levels and officials can't say the 20-year-old was under the influence.

Tests did not find any alcohol in any of the victims.

Some sources speculate that the crash could have been a suicide pact among the three friends.

No one was wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident and there were no skid marks.
