Montco Officials Investigate Third Spill Into Tookany Creek in Two Weeks

Officials in Montgomery County are now tasked with cleaning up contaminants spilled into Tookany Creek for the third time in less than a month.

In a post to Cheltenham Township's Facebook page Wednesday afternoon, officials said that the township received notification of two "illicit discharges" into the creek on Wednesday.

Township officials said one of the spills happened in Glenside on the Abington Township side and the other occurred in the Wyncote section of Cheltenham Township.

"The discharges are affecting the creek from where it enters Cheltenham Township from Abington to the vicinity around the Jenkintown-Wyncote Train Station," the Facebook post reads.

Officials said the Department of Environmental Protection and township officials responded to investigate and begin the cleanup.

It was unclear exactly what spilled into the creek in the two incidents Wednesday, but officials said both originated from commercial businesses.

The spills come on the heels of what was believed to be a paint spill into the creek near Glenside Pool about two weeks ago. Officials said in that case, water-blasting and painting at the pool were to blame.
