Thousands of Dead Fish Wash Up on Jersey Shore

Low oxygen levels in the water are to blame for the thousands of dead fish that washed up on the beach in North Wildwood, N.J., Saturday morning, according to the Wildwood Public Works Department.

Fishermen on the beach at Pine Avenue cast nets and fishing lines as seagulls flocked to the easy meal, the Cape May County Herald reported. It was the third fish kill in the county in the past 10 weeks.

Public works employees removed hundreds of pounds of dead fish from Lake Lily on July 12 in Cape May Point. Weeks later in Lower and Middle Townships hundreds more fish would wash up on the Delaware Bay.

Both incidents were blamed on low oxygen levels in the water.
