A line of rain storms accompanied by strong winds downed trees and knocked out power in suburban Philadelphia overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.
At the Navy Yard in South Phily, around 3 a.m. powerful straight-line winds damaged roofs, fence lines, doors, glass, trees, cars and some buildings. No injuries.
Peco reported 17,000 customers without power Wednesday morning. Peco spokeswoman Karen Muldoon Geus says wind gusts forecast to reach 45 mph during the day has the utility on guard for more outages.
Atlantic City Electric had over 8,000 customers without power and Delmarva Power reported over 2,200 outages.
Overnight winds were so intense that several small planes at the Trenton-Mercer airport in New Jersey were flipped over -- seven planes in all were damaged. Some buildings at the airport were also damaged.
Downed trees caused some traffic delays heading into the morning rush hour.
