Would-Be Liquor Thief Tries to Hide on Roof: Police

A would-be thief never got the chance to steal anything thanks to some watchful neighbors and some alert police officers, according to authorities.

Residents near the 1000 block of Lombard Street in Wilmington, Del. called 911 after seeing someone trying to break into BGM Liquors Saturday around 2 a.m.

When Wilmington Police officers arrived they say they found some damage to the front of the corner store consistent with someone trying to break-in. While securing the scene, officers say they saw Kendell Gardner trying to hide on the roof, according to Wilmington Police.

Officers arrested Gardner after he came down off the roof.

Gardner, 25, of New Castle, Del. was released from custody after posting $1,500 bond. He faces charges including attempted burglary, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.
