Thief Steals From Girl Scouts Raising Money for Troops: Cops

It happened Sunday around 5 p.m., at the Pathmark on 450 West Swedesford Road in Berwyn, Pa.

Police are searching for a man caught on surveillance video stealing from Girl Scouts who were raising money for troops overseas.

It happened Sunday around 5 p.m. at the Pathmark on 450 West Swedesford Road in Berwyn, Pa. Police say two girl scouts between the ages of 8 and 9 and their mothers were at a table inside the grocery store when the theft took place. A man wearing glasses and a scarf covering his face approached the table and reached into a donation jar, stealing an unknown amount of money, according to investigators. The man then allegedly reached into the cash box and grabbed around $20 before one of the scouts closed the box. Police say he then ran out of the building, entered a blue vehicle in the parking lot and fled the scene.

“I’m not that surprised,” said Brad Lamson-Scribner of Devon. “Stuff happens everywhere. People think the area is really nice and nothing bad happens but it does. It’s terrible.”

“It’s like you can’t get involved in anything anymore because now it’s like everything is tainted,” said Julie Vanderslice of Devon.

The suspect is described as a white male between the ages of 20 and 30 of medium height and weight. Police say he was wearing a dark-colored head covering, dark-colored shirt and light-colored pants.
