Trial Begins in Death of Temple University Student

Lawyers for a man on trial in Philadelphia in the shooting death of his girlfriend are expected to argue that the woman's gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that trial opened Wednesday for 30-year-old Brandon Meade of Upper Darby.

He's charged in the death of 22-year-old Temple University student Agatha Hall, who was found dead in her north Philadelphia apartment in August 2015.

In cross-examining several detectives Wednesday, defense attorney Evan Hughes sought to emphasize that investigators initially treated the case as a suicide.

But prosecutors have alleged that Meade shot Hall and then staged the scene in her bedroom to look like a suicide. Investigators said earlier that tests had concluded that "it was impossible for the victim's gunshot wound to be self-inflicted."
