Police Arrest Temple Sex Assault Suspect for Unrelated Crime

Police on Thursday said a man suspected in the gunpoint sexual assault of a Temple University student late last month has been arrested on an unrelated charge.

The man, who has not been officially identified, was not charged with the Sept. 28 rape of the 20-year-old student, which happened on Carlisle Street near Master about 11:35 that night. A police spokeswoman said he is, however, a suspect in that assault, which remained under investigation on Thursday when he was taken into police custody on an unrelated charge.

Investigators last week released surveillance video showing a man they're searching for in connection with the assault on a Broad Street Line subway just prior to the attack. Police said the man exited the subway at Cecil B. Moore Avenue -- a few blocks from where the assault happened.

The 20-year-old victim was walking on Carlisle Street, police said. After the assault, she ran to an emergency call box and alerted authorities.
