Teens, Man Shot From Behind While Riding Bikes Along Philadelphia Street

Someone shot three bicyclists – including two teenagers – from behind as they rode along a North Philadelphia street overnight.

Gunfire rang out just before 1:30 a.m. Friday along N 5th Street near Erie Avenue, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

“(Officers) found a 44-year-old male down on the highway suffering from a gunshot wound to his back,” said Small.

Medics rushed him to Temple University Hospital where he was listed in stable condition, said Small.

While investigating the initial scene, officers were called to about three blocks away where they found a 17-year-old shot in the back and an 18-year-old shot in the leg. Both teens were also listed in stable condition, said police.

“The 17- and 18-year-old, after being shot, were able to ride their bikes to the 17-year-old’s house,” said Small.

The teens know each other, the 44-year-old was not with then teens, said Small. All three were headed southbound when they heard gunshots from behind.

Investigators didn’t immediately reveal who they believe the gunman targeted.

“We don’t know which of the three, if any of them, were the intended target,” said Small.
