Teen to Plead Not Guilty in Trooper Shooting

The attorney representing a central Pennsylvania teenager accused of shooting at a state trooper on Interstate 81 over the weekend says his client will plead not guilty at a hearing this week.

Attorney Steve Rice also told The (Chambersburg) Public Opinion that some counts of attempted homicide and attempted homicide of a law enforcement officer were being dropped, leaving one count of each.

Police allege that the Mifflinburg 16-year-old stole a car and a gun and fired at a trooper who stopped him on I-81 Sunday morning near Chambersburg, about 50 miles southwest of Harrisburg. The trooper fired back, but neither was injured.

Police said the shooting is unrelated to a January road rage incident 15 miles further south on I-81 that left a 28-year-old Maine man dead.
