Teen Swimmer Found in Creek to Be Laid to Rest

Funeral services have been set for a 13-year-old boy who was found dead in the Pennypack Creek, three days after he disappeared while swimming.

A passerby saw the body of Brandon Boyle near Holme and Winchester Avenues Thursday morning, according to the Philadelphia Fire Department. It appeared the body had floated up after being stuck in the rocks.

The teen went missing while swimming with friends in the rain-swollen Northeast Philadelphia creek earlier this week. Boyle was swimming with his 11-year-old brother and their friends in the Pennypack Creek when he was swept away Monday afternoon. His brother was rescued after being found clinging to a ledge.

A viewing will be held this Tuesday from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Bethel Franklin Mills Church located at 903 Franklin Mills Circle in Philadelphia.  A second viewing will be held on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and a funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. at the same location.

Boyle just graduated 8th grade and would have celebrated his 14th birthday on July 22.
