Car Strikes Teen in New Castle County

A crash along a New Castle County road left a Delaware teen walking across the street in critical condition.

The New Castle County Paramedics said the car struck the 14-year-old boy in the 800 block of Pulaski Highway in Bear at 6:40 p.m., Tuesday. Paramedics said he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The unidentified teen tried to cross the highway from north to south, said investigators.

While doing so, a 2005 Nissan Altima, driven by Amrik Singh, was traveling eastbound in the left lane and struck the young boy. The 56-year-old New Castle man was able to bring his vehicle to a controlled stop after the impact, said police.

Both eastbound lanes of Pulaski Highway were closed for two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continued its investigation Wednesday and no charges have been filed at this time.

Troopers remind pedestrians to look both ways before crossing roads and to only cross in marked crosswalks.
