A teenager was struck and killed Friday night after he tried to cross a highway in Delaware.
Police say 18-year-old Nigel Simon Jr. of Newark, Delaware was walking across the eastbound lanes of Kirkwood Highway on Friday around 6 p.m. in Wilmington.
According to investigators, Simon Jr. was crossing in an area that was not within a designated crosswalk.
As he was walking, police say he was struck by a 2006 Toyota Sienna traveling eastbound. The impact sent Simon into the westbound lanes of the highway where he was struck again by a 2011 Ford F-250.
Simon suffered several injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kirkwood Highway westbound was completely closed while eastbound was restricted to one lane for two and a half hours.
State troopers continue to investigate the crash.
