Teen Shoots His Elderly Neighbor in Broad Daylight: Police

Man was cleaning outside teen's home when he was shot in chest

The hunt is on for a teen accused of killing his elderly neighbor in broad daylight.

The incident happened just after 1 p.m. Monday along the 1900 block of Rowan Street in the Nicetown section of Philadelphia, police said.

Lawrence Bennett, 68, was doing yard work in his neighbor's yard when he was approached by the woman's 17-year-old son, police said.

It was then Tyrone Roberson accused Bennett of stealing something from the property, police said.

The two began a verbal argument that ended with Robertson pulling out a gun and shooting Bennett once in the chest, police said.

Bennett was rushed to Temple University Hospital, but later died.

Robertson is still on the loose. He's described as a black man standing 5-foot-6-inches tall. He was last seen wearing a sliver-striped shirt and grey sweatpants.

Police are asking for the public's help in finding Robertson.

"In broad daylight, to shoot a 68-year-old unarmed man -- we have to get him off the street as quickly as possible," Capt. James Clark said.
