Teen Leads Trooper on Chase in Stolen Car: Police

A teenager allegedly led a Delaware State Police officer on a car chase while driving a stolen vehicle early Sunday morning.

A trooper, who was assisting with a crash near Old Baltimore Pike and Salem Church Road in Newark, spotted a stolen maroon Buick Lacrosse pass through the intersection around midnight and began pursuing the vehicle, which had 18 -year-old Michael Gordon at the wheel, investigators said.

The responding officer caught up with the Buick, and turned on the patrol vehicle's lights and sirens in an attempt to pull over the teen, but Gordon began speeding away, officials said.

The pursuit continued through Newark and Stanton, ending when the stolen car struck a curb and became disabled at Old Coach and Henderson roads, authorities said.

Two passengers ran from the scene, but Gordon, of Newark, was taken into custody.

The teen, who was found to be in possession of 1.3 grams of marijuana, was charged with multiple charges including receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, and other offenses.

Police have yet to identify the passengers who fled.
