Teen Killed, 4 Injured in New Castle County Crash

Police say alcohol may have played a factor in the deadly accident.

A Delaware teenager is dead after a car accident in Wilmington.

On Friday, at 7:15 p.m., police say a Dodge Stratus, driven by 60-year-old Anthony Cicone, of Wilmington, was turning from East Red Clay Drive onto Centerville Road. At the same time, a 2004 Jeep Wrangler, driven by a 17-year-old boy, was traveling northbound on Centerville. Police say the left front of the Stratus struck the right front of the Wrangler. The Wrangler went airborne and flipped several times before crashing on the passenger side against a curb.

Police say a passenger inside the Jeep, 17-year-old Anthony Maguire, was not wearing a seatbelt. He suffered severe head injuries and was killed in the crash.

The 17-year-old driver, Cicone and a 60-year-old woman and 86-year-old woman who were passengers inside the Stratus, were all injured in the crash. They were taken to Christiana Medical Center and treated for minor injuries before being released.

Investigators say that alcohol appears to have played a role in the crash. They have not yet revealed which of the drivers was drinking. They continue to investigate.
