Teen Gets 50 Years for Mom's Murder

Kendall Anderson was just 16 when he confessed to beating his mom to death with a hammer then trying to cremate her in the oven before burying her under a dresser in their backyard.

A Philadelphia teen who beat his mother to death with a hammer then tried to burn her body in their home's oven has been ordered to spend at least 25 years in prison.

Seventeen-year-old Kendall Anderson said he attacked his mother while she slept in November 2010 because of their frequent disputes, including her decision to take away his PlayStation 2.

Rashida Anderson's body was found in the alley behind their South Philadelphia home after relatives reported her missing.

In a statement to police, the then-16-year-old boy said he tried to cremate his mother in the oven to dispose of her body.

The Philadelphia Daily News reports Kendall Anderson pleaded guilty to third-degree murder last week and was sentenced Wednesday to up to 50 years in prison.
