Teen Falls 175-Feet to His Death: Police

Manner of death still to be determined

A 16-year-old boy who was found dead in a Horsham, Pa. cemetery Sunday afternoon died after falling 175 feet from a mausoleum tower, Montgomery County authorities say.

Police were called to Whitemarsh Memorial Park at Limekiln Pike and Horsham Road around 2:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of suspicious activity and found the unidentified teen's body on the ground in front of a mausoleum tower.

An autopsy revealed Monday that the boy died of severe trauma, which included multiple broken bones and extensive internal damage, according to the Montgomery County Coronor's Office.

Authorities say that the teen accessed the tower by an aluminum ladder that was brought to the memorial park. According to police and the District Attorney's Office, the initial investigation revealed no evidence of foul play.

Police continue to investigate the incident and are awaiting toxicology test results to give an official manner of death.

Curtis Griffin, the Superintendent of Hatboro-Horsham School District where the teen attended, released a statement saying that the district would be providing grief counseling for students. after learning the teenager may have attended of one of their high schools.

"I know I speak for the entire High School staff when I say that our sympathies go out to the family of this teenager. We are committed to working together during this sad time to help the students of our High School handle this loss," Griffin wrote.
