Dear Kenny Chesney, Honor Our “Boy of Fall”

Philly teen who died was a big Kenny Chesney fan and now family hopes the singer will honor him

Kenny Kline loved football, country music and Kenny Chesney so much he sported a tattoo of Chesney's hit song, "The Boys of Fall" because it pretty much defined him.

"It was their song," Katie Jasket, a friend of Kline, said.

Kline, 18, played football at Northeast High School and for a graduation gift, he'd been given coveted tickets to Chesney's June 18 concert in Philadelphia.

"He had tickets in the pit, but he was afraid to even hold them," Shelly Easton, program director for Philly's country station, 92.5 'XTU, said.

Kline was killed in a motorcycle accident last Saturday. Before donating his organs, his family placed the tickets in his hand and then, along with friends, embarked on a mission to get Kline's idol to honor the teen during his upcoming concert.

First they launched a Facebook page, Kenny 4 Kenny:

...Every year when Chesney comes to town, our Kenny would take the trip down to the stadium and enjoy the sun, fun, and music. Kenny and four of his best friends even went as far as to get matching tattoos reading "Boys of Fall." Under the title of the Chesney song were the numbers of the football-playing friends to commemorate their time at Northeast High School.

Our mission is to have Kenny Chesney recognize our dear friend and have him dedicate "Boys of Fall" to our Kenny at his Philadelphia concert on June 18, 2011 at Lincoln Financial Field.

Next they got the city's country music station on board.

"I'm a mom. Kenny Kline was 18 years old and I don't think there's a parent anywhere who doesn't worry when their kid goes out," said 'XTU's Easton. "But I think what really moved me was how much this young man meant to so many people, and the fact that he donated organs."

Easton dedicated her entire show Tuesday afternoon to Kline and the Kenny 4 Kenny project. By the time it was over, Kenny 4 Kenny had more than three-thousand fans and Easton had an encouraging email back from someone she'd reached out to at Chesney's record label: "I'm going to send Kenny your email and let him check it out. Knowing him, he will want to do or say something."

"I think we're just gonna support this as it takes on a life of it's own," Easton said.

You can too – "Send this page to everyone who knows Kenny, and even those who don't. We want Kenny Chesney to understand how much his music meant to Kenny Kline and the Boys of Fall."
