14-Year-Old Boy Shot in the Head Dies From Injuries

A 14-year-old boy who was shot in the head in North Philadelphia Monday night died from his injuries Tuesday.

The teen was in front of the Philadelphia Housing Authority police building, which was empty at the time, on the 1200 block of 10th Street at 8:40 p.m. Monday, when an unidentified gunman opened fire. The teen was struck once in the head. He was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital where he was listed in extremely critical condition. He was later pronounced dead Tuesday at 5 p.m. Investigators have not yet released his identity.

Police told NBC10 a BB gun that looked like a handgun fell out of the teen's clothes when he arrived at the hospital. They don't believe the BB gun was the weapon that wounded him however and instead suspect the teen was shot by a revolver. They continue to search for the weapon.

No arrests have been made and investigators say there were no witnesses. The Homicide Unit is currently investigating and police are reviewing surveillance video from a few blocks away.
