Teen Boy Drives SUV Into House: Cops

The teen is charged with careless driving.

Police are investigating a car crash involving a 14-year-old boy in the Saddlebrook Townhomes community in New Castle, Delaware. It happened Saturday around 1 p.m. on the unit block of Freedom Trail.

Police say a 14-year boy entered an SUV (GMC Yukon) and tried to back the vehicle out of the driveway when he observed a car traveling toward him on Freedom Trail. The teen put the vehicle in drive and pushed on the accelerator, according to police. He then allegedly lost control of the SUV, drove across the front lawn and crashed into his home.

“I heard this loud screeching of tires,” said a neighbor. “Next thing you know our house shook. When we came outside our neighbor’s son had drove her car into the house.”

Police say the home is now unfit for habitation due to structural damage. Fortunately the teen as well as a family member inside the home during the crash were not injured.

The teen is charged with careless driving. The family living inside the home has relocated.
