Teen Carjackers With Guns Slam Into Cars, Run Off: Philadelphia Police

Two armed teenage carjackers slammed into a series of cars after speeding off in a car belonging to the daughter of a Philadelphia Police officer who was coming home for the evening.

The woman was parking her car along S Front Street near Morris Street – under Interstate 95 – in South Philadelphia shortly after midnight Tuesday when two teens on bicycles approached and demanded her money and car keys, said Lt. John Walker with the Southwest Detectives Division.

"They leave their bikes, they get in her car and they come toward Southwest Philly," said Walker.

The boys drove around for some time being spotted at 77th and Essington, said Walker. Officers then spotted the car around 56th and Springfield and attempted to stop the car, said Walker.

"The vehicle takes off at a high rate of speed," said Walker.

Officers decided not to give chase since the car was running red lights and it appeared too dangerous to pursue, said Walker.

"We believe these kids probably don't have a license to drive," said Walker.

The car eventually slammed into eight cars around 48th and Springfield in West Philadelphia before coming to a stop.

The boys – one possibly with a head injury – fled on foot, leaving behind two guns, said investigators who believe the boys likely aren't even old enough to drive.

Walker said everyone is lucky no one else was hurt.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Philadelphia Police.
