Teacher Charged with Sex Act with Student

An 11th grade teacher faces a charge of institutional sexual assault for what police say was a sex act with a male student in her classroom.

Pennlive.com reported on Friday that a lawyer for 31-year-old Emily Nesbit released a statement saying she "made a series of bad decisions at a low point in her life."

Nesbit resigned on Wednesday, two days after officials at Cumberland Valley High School learned of the allegations. She'd previously been the student's English teacher.

Court records allege that messages captured on the student's phone indicate Nesbit told him she wanted to have sex. Police say Nesbit admitted to performing a sex act with the student, who prosecutors say is 18 years old.

Nesbit was arraigned on Friday and released on $100,000 unsecured bail.

School officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
