A taxi driver died after his taxi hit a dump truck in New Castle County. A passenger sustained minor injuries.

Cpl. Peter Small of New Castle County paramedics says the accident happened Saturday around 1 a.m.

Small says that when paramedics arrived on southbound I-95 in the area of Churchmans Marsh they found the driver trapped in the car and in cardiac arrest. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. A 46-year-old passenger was said to be in stable condition.

Delaware State Police say the dump truck slowed down because of a blown tire and the taxi was unable to stop in time.

The owner of the Yellow Cab Company of Wilmington, Regis Kone, confirmed his driver Walter Gross of Wilmington, Del., died in the crash.
