Man Swipes 12 Taxi Cabs in Philadelphia: Police

UPDATE: Police made an arrest and charged Eric Kemp with the thefts.

Philadelphia police are searching for the suspect who stole a dozen taxi cabs and used at least two of them while committing crimes.

The suspect swiped 12 taxi cabs in a one-week span in West Philadelphia and Southwest Philadelphia. The thefts happened between June 7 and June 15.

All of the stolen taxi cabs bear the logo of "215 Get A Cab."

Lt. John Walker said two of the stolen cabs were used during crimes. The first was used during a shooting at 41st and Ogden Streets on June 9. The second happened on Monday when three males jumped out of a cab and committed an armed robbery.

Walker said the other cabs were found on the street and not used in any crimes.

Walker is urging riders to be cautious and ask for identification before taking a ride in a cab.

The suspect is described as a black male with a thin build and beard.

Anyone with information is urged to call 911.
