A strong line of thunderstorms screamed across the region Friday evening bringing heavy rain, high winds, hail and prompting a Tornado Warning in the Philadelphia suburbs.
The National Weather Service issued the warning around 4:30 p.m. when Doppler radar indicated rotation in a cell of thunderstorms moving through parts of Chester and Montgomery counties.
The storm barelled through towns like Norristown, Royersford, Limerick, Plymouth Meeting and King of Prussia at 45 mph.
Karen Higgins' daughter, Ali, was on the sports fields at Spring-Ford 9th Grade Center in Royersford when a wall of water and wind hit.
"We rushed off just in time," Higgins said.
"It started to pour, then it stopped completely for a moment and then the wind and rain really picked up and large trees and branches...started falling," she said.
Hail of 1-inch in diameter were reported in the warning zone and there are reports of trees down in Berks County near the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
