Suspect Steals $17, Shoots Woman in Philly

An armed robber shot a woman in the leg before stealing $17 from her Saturday night in East Mount Airy.

The 27-year-old woman was leaving a shop near Chew Avenue and East Sharpnack Street around 7 p.m. when the suspect approached her and demanded money, police said.

Before she had a chance to respond, the gunman shot her in her right thigh, snatched the cash from her hand and ran, investigators said.

Police described the suspect as approximately 20-years-old, about 5-feet 4-inches tall, wearing a black leather jacket and jeans.

Authorities said the suspect had an accomplice, who they described as about 20-years-old, around 5-feet 4-inches tall and chubby, wearing a black cloth jacket with a fur-lined hood.
