New Jersey College to Archive Oral History of Sandy

Students at a New Jersey college have joined the push to preserve memories of a storm that destroyed homes and businesses along the shore.

The College of New Jersey has launched an oral history archive to collect the experiences of people hit hard by Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

It's not the only effort to preserve the stories of residents, first responders and others.

Kean University, Monmouth University and the Brooklyn Public Library have embarked on similar efforts since the storm.

College of New Jersey associate history professor Matthew Bender says scholars in the future could use the results to document the storm's impacts.

He tells NJ.com that the storm "radically affects the culture and identity of the state."
