A retired state trooper is believed to have shot and killed his wife inside a central Pennsylvania supermarket Thursday morning and then committed suicide, state police said, two days after she had filed for divorce.

Pennsylvania State Police spokeswoman Maria Finn said the slain woman is Tracie Miscavish. Finn says she filed for divorce from her husband, Mark Miscavish, two days ago. He had retired in 2011 after 15 years on the force.

Tracie Miscavish's sister, Gina March, tells reporters Mark Miscavish was briefly jailed in January on charges he beat up his wife.

Online court records indicate Mark Miscavish was awaiting trial on charges of simple assault, harassment and terroristic threats.
