A man was stabbed to death inside a Philadelphia homeless shelter Saturday morning, authorities said.
Medics pronounced the man dead at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday inside the Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission at N 13th and Pearl streets in Center City, Philadelphia police said. He had multiple stab wounds.
Investigators took a suspect into custody, recovered a weapon at the scene and interviewed about 40 witnesses to the stabbing, police said.
The shelter serves three meals daily to anyone in need and also offers a men’s shelter and long-term recovery program, the Christian faith-based mission says on its website.
The mission still hopes to carry out plans to serve lunch -- possibly serving sandwiches in the parking lot -- and dinner Saturday, even though the building remains a crime scene.
"Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission has ministered to the physical and spiritual needs of the homeless and disadvantaged in the Philadelphia area since 1878," SBRM says.
An employee for the mission declined comment Saturday morning.
