Suicide Pact, Not Murder Claims Upper Darby Man

An Upper Darby man charged with murder says he and his wife made a suicide pact but he survived.

A Delaware County man has been ordered to stand trial on murder charges in the death of his wife in what he claims is a suicide pact he survived.

A magistrate on Monday ordered 51-year-old Gurinder Singh to trial on first- and second-degree murder charges in his wife's death despite his attorney's contention Singh had been the survivor of a suicide pact the couple made.

Forty-seven-year-old Jaswinder Kaur was pronounced dead Feb. 22 inside the family's Upper Darby Township home. The couple's son said he found his parents with scarves around their necks after getting calls from his father that sounded like he was struggling for breath.

The Delaware County Daily Times reports prosecutors told the court Kaur had injuries indicating she tried to fight Singh off.
