Suburban Teen Charged in Pittsburgh School Bomb Threats

A 14-year-old boy from the suburb of Clairton faces dozens of charges related to bomb threats which forced three Pittsburgh Public Schools facilities to evacuate last month.

Police are not identifying the boy because he's a minor. He's being charged in juvenile court with 33 counts of terroristic threats, 15 counts of threatening to use weapons of mass destruction, and eight counts each of misdemeanor terroristic threats and making false alarms.

The teen was allowed to seek inpatient mental health treatment instead of being arrested and is now undergoing outpatient treatment as he awaits trial.

The threats — which were all hoaxes — targeted West Liberty Elementary, South Brook Middle and the Pioneer Education Center.
