Fierce Storms Eyed as Cause for Verizon Cell Phone Issue

The fierce line of wind and thunderstorms that moved through the region Tuesday night is apparently impacting cell phone service for Verizon customers.

Representatives with the Chester County Department of Emergency Services said that Verizon is currently experiencing a service outage in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

Calls made from Verizon cell phones to a landline are receiving a busy signal, this includes calls to 9-1-1. Calls made from Verizon cell phones will only work when dialing another Verizon cell phone customer.

The New Castle County Division of Public Safety issued a similar advisement to its residents in Delaware and asked anyone who was having problems to use a different means of communication if they have a true emergency.

It is believed that the strong storms that rolled through the region Tuesday night are responsible for the service interruption.

Verizon is aware of the issue and they are working to restore service as soon as possible.
