Stolen Rental Trucks Found; Search for Suspect Continues

In the span of 30 minutes, authorities recovered a missing U-Haul van that was rented under a stolen identity and a Penske cargo truck that had been stolen last week. The search for the suspect continues.

Police said they found the white U-Haul cargo van, which had an Arizona tag, on the 2200 block of West Lehigh Avenue around 1:50 a.m. Saturday. Thirty minutes earlier and about two miles away, the 16-foot Hi-Cube Penske truck, with an Indiana plate, was recovered on the 100 block of Rising Sun Avenue, near 11th and West Tioga streets, authorities said.

The man who police say is connected to the crime is still on the loose.

Authorities released images of the suspect, but did not disclose what his role.

The U-Haul cargo van was missing since April 26 -- the day three men forced a homeless man to open a bank account and then rent the Ford, according to police.

The Penske truck was reported stolen on April 28, taken from a rental location at 1216 Washington Ave., investigators said.

"The most important job of the police department at this time is to give info to the public and enlist their aid," he said. "This way now I have 1.5 million eyes looking for these vehicles."

Anyone with information on the man's whereabouts or his identity is urged to contact Homeland Security at 215-823-9525, Philadelphia Police at 215.686.TIPS or 911.
