Charges in Crash of Stolen Car that Injured Pregnant Woman and Mother

A stolen car crashed and burst into flames in Philadelphia Wednesday evening, and two men who were in the car are now facing criminal charges.

SkyForce10 was over the scene about 6 p.m. as the car burned in the area of I-76 and Montgomery Drive. Police said they spotted the car -- which they said was stolen -- speeding up the emergency lane on I-76 before disregarding a stop sign at the exit ramp and crashing into another car.

Two men fled from the car and ran back onto the expressway, but were quickly caught by police, according to Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives. Police said the car was stolen from a 7-Eleven in Northeast Philadelphia on Wednesday morning.

The two men, whom police did not identify on Wednesday night, were to face charges including aggravated assault and auto theft.

Police said three victims, including a pregnant woman, in the car that was struck by the stolen car were injured in the crash. They and the two men who were in the stolen car were taken to Hahnemann University Hospital.

The victims -- a man who was driving, his pregnant girlfriend and his girlfriend's mother -- were all still being treated at the hospital late Wednesday. Police said the mother was in critical condition and the driver and his girlfriend, who is a month pregnant, were both stable.
