Stingray Scare

Packs of stingrays were spotted near the shore of a Seaside Heights beach on Wednesday.

Swimmers scrambled for shore after a group of stingrays were sighted off a New Jersey beach.

People initially thought sharks were swimming off the Grand and Blaine avenue beaches in Seaside Heights Wednesday.

Sgt. Steven Vanhise of the Seaside Park Beach Patrol told the Asbury Park Press lifeguards launched a boat and personal watercraft and saw the stingrays, about 8-to-10 feet in size, about 200 to 300 feet off shore.

Vanhise says the stingrays, which were traveling in packs of three to four, didn't pose a threat to swimmers.
