State Trooper Hurt in Crash On Pittsburgh-Area Highway

A Pennsylvania state trooper has been treated for minor injuries after an out-of-control SUV struck his parked cruiser on a Pittsburgh-area highway.

State police say the 2005 GMC Envoy struck a second vehicle before coming to a rest in heavy rain around 7:20 p.m. Saturday on northbound Interstate 279 near the Bellevue ramp.

They say the cruiser's emergency lights were flashing while the trooper completed a crash investigation. The cruiser sustained major damage on the rear and front driver's side.

A state police spokesman says earlier media reports of a single-vehicle crash were inaccurate.

State police didn't release the name of the involved trooper. No other injuries were reported.
